Frequently Asked Questions
Where are my photos and videos stored?
All media is stored exclusively in the app's private sandbox on your device. Nothing is uploaded to the cloud or accessible by other apps.
What happens if I forget my PIN?
There is no PIN recovery — this is by design to protect your privacy. If Advanced Shredding is enabled, 5 consecutive wrong attempts will permanently erase all vault contents. We strongly recommend remembering your PIN.
How do I enable Face ID / Touch ID?
Go to Settings → Security → Biometric Unlock and toggle it on. Face ID or Touch ID will be used each time you open the vault.
What is Stealth Mode?
Stealth Mode silences the shutter sound and suppresses the screen flash when capturing photos, making capture completely discreet.
How do I change video resolution?
Go to Settings → Camera → Video Resolution to choose between 720p, 1080p HD, and 4K UHD.
Can I export or share media from the vault?
PrivacyCam is designed for private, local-only storage. Media is intentionally kept inside the app's encrypted sandbox and cannot be exported to protect your privacy.
Why does the app ask for camera and microphone permission?
Camera access is required to take photos and record videos. Microphone access is required to record audio with video. Neither permission is used for any other purpose, and no data leaves your device.
Is my data backed up to iCloud?
No. The vault storage directory is excluded from iCloud backup. All media stays on your device only.
The camera preview is black / not working. What should I do?
Go to iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera and make sure PrivacyCam has permission. If the issue persists, try closing and reopening the app, or restarting your device.
I accidentally enabled Self-Destruct and lost my data. Can it be recovered?
Unfortunately, no. The self-destruct wipe is permanent and irreversible by design. We cannot recover deleted vault contents.
